Scholarships
Background
Friends of the USS Abraham Lincoln Scholarship Program is funded through a
joint effort between corporations, foundations and individuals throughout
the United States. The program provides support to children of enlisted personnel
who have honorably served on the USS Abraham Lincoln by offering scholarships
to entering college freshman.
Awards
Each recipient will receive a scholarship of up to $1000 to be applied toward
education expenses for the freshman year of study. Awards will be distributed
geographically, ensuring that scholarship recipients represent communities
throughout the United States.
Eligibility
The applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Parent/Guardian must have served on the USS Abraham Lincoln for more than
one year and received an honorable discharge.
- Be a current high school senior planning to enroll as a full-time student
(12 semester hours or more) in a two or four-year college or university in
the United States for the 2003-2004 academic year.
- Legally reside in the United States of America.
- Possess at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, based on a four
point scale.
- Be able to demonstrate financial need.
Application Process
Eligible students may apply by sending the completed application form along
with a personal essay and copy of high school transcript to: Friends
of the USS Abraham Lincoln, at the address on the back of the application form.
For consideration, all applications must be postmarked by July 30, 2003.
Selection Criteria
Awards will be based on the information provided on the application form, the
personal essay, academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience,
individual goals and demonstrated financial need.
Selection and Notification Process
Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee based on the above criteria.
All applicants will be notified in writing by August 15, 2003.
